These rules are here to protect you and us as well as the puppies that we all love.
I carry this guarantee because I care what happens to the puppies, and about the families who provide a new home for them. There are many breeders out there who do not carry a guarantee at all. It isn't because they don't care, it is because they do not want to bother with all the factors that are involved. There are many factors to look at when a pup/dog has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia. The fact is that even parents who have been tested for this and have passed with flying colors can still have a pup turn out to have hip problems. That is when you look at the facts of what has happened to the pup at the new home. *Is the dog over weight? Has the dog been injured in any way? Did the new owner train the pup too hard, too early?*
All of these weigh greatly on the pups future health. We have the guarantee to the age of 30 months because the dog can not have the hips certified until the dog is 2 years of age. That gives you 6 months after the 2 year mark to get it done. Preliminary evaluations can be preformed after 4 to 5 months of age. OFA evaluations are about 90% accurate when compared to follow-ups of the same pup at 24 months of age. The reason to obtain preliminary status is to minimize the emotional and financial burden if the dog is found to have hip dysplasia.
